Abstract

Objectives:

  1. Discover personal family History through first person interviews with family members.
  2. Understand and implement first person research in family history and genealogy through the use of
    the extensive resources of ancestry record websites.
  3. Use web resources such as the Oxford Reference Library’s Dictionary of Family Names to research
    personal surnames for origin and meaning.
  4. Participate in Ancestral DNA testing to apply the science of DNA to personal American History.
  5. Compare findings of first person research with the scientific DNA test.

For this project, students will create a family history book, or slide presentation tracing your family history. This is a highly individualized activity that is designed to be a journey of self­ discovery.
